Hack TUES – the student event that inspires

And in 2022, Astea Solutions supported the unique Hack TUES. We are glad that, for the seventh year in a row, we had the opportunity to be part of the TUES technology competition, which provides a space for students to experiment, try out new technologies and develop their ideas.

Hack TUES Infinity

The hackathon was held for the eighth time and is the only competition of its kind organized by students for students. That in itself testifies to the contagious enthusiasm of the Tuesars.

Each year the event has a certain theme, and this year’s edition went under the motto Infinity between March 10 and 13. The main theme of the hackathon was Space for everybody, and a record 224 participants or a total of 50 teams took part in it. Within 48 hours, they realized and presented their projects, which covered different sub-themes: Space Exploration, Space Home, XSpace, Wide Space, Space Fun and Truly Everybody.

On the way to the implementation of their ideas, each team could count on a personal mentor – 50 professionals from the IT sector with the most diverse competencies assisted the participants. Astronomers Kaloyan Manolov and Georgi Stoilov actively participated in this role, and Kaloyan was available for the “D’BIRA” team, who were developing an interesting site that visually represented the depth of space. Georgi mentored the team “Code = problem, !Code = no_problem” who were working on a 2D game exploring different planets and their hidden powers.

Achievements

A special jury composed of IT specialists and teachers from TUES determined the most innovative projects of Hack TUES Infinity. In third place was the “TtT” team with their project to improve communication in different languages between astronauts with the help of pagers-translators. Team “Cats with Thumbs” took second place with their idea to help explore Mars. And the first place was awarded to the team “Lemniskåta”, which presented their system for evaluating the probability of a successful landing on space terrain. Truly stellar projects!

Each of the three teams received an incentive for the results in the form of a scholarship, and for the rest there were prizes provided by the sponsors of the hackathon. We at Astea presented our special award – a visit to the Infinity Escape Rooms, to Team “Code = problem, !Code = no_problem”, who impressed us with their great work organization and how they handled their work with Unity and Git.

But best of all, students can also reap many intangible benefits from Hack TUES. The series of online trainings before the event introduces participants to many current topics related to mobile application development, embedded microcomputer systems, working with Git and GitHub, and more. The hackathon provides them with an opportunity to touch technology that they have not tried before. And during the competition, students build on their organizational and teamwork abilities, as well as their presentation skills. Last but not least, interacting with professionals from different IT companies familiarizes the participants more closely with the real business environment.

We congratulate all the students for the enthusiasm with which they participated in Hack TUES Infinity, and the organizing team for brilliantly handling this massive event. We are happy to contribute to the student hackathon because it gives Tuesars an opportunity to expand their horizons and satisfy their curiosity in the field of technology.
