The Scratch Foundation advances creative coding education by offering free access to Scratch and ScratchJr, empowering children everywhere to learn programming and express their ideas.
Created in 2007 by Professor Mitchel Resnick and the Lifelong Kindergarten group at MIT Media Lab, Scratch pioneered block-based coding — built on decades of educational research. With Scratch, children design interactive stories, games, and animations, and share them with peers and teachers in the world’s largest free coding community, which welcomes more than 20 million new users each year.
Astea collaborates with the Scratch Foundation on design, architecture, and development of the next-generation Scratch platform — enhancing backend systems, improving the editor, implementing automated image-safety detection, and elevating the overall user experience for learners worldwide.
